Hello! I'm Tyla! I'm a 25 year old New York City native focused on creating and providing accessible and inclusive childbirth education. I graduated from the Rory Meyers College of Nursing in May of 2018 with my Bachelor's of Science in Nursing in the hopes of one day becoming a midwife. I currently attend SUNY Downstate, pursuing my Master’s in Nurse-Midwifery. I hope to one day get my PhD, focusing on issues of LGBTQ inclusion in birthwork and health practices. My focus is on helping expecting parents have a positive and powerful experience during pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period. 

I am most passionate about educating families in order to allow them to make informed decisions and be active participants in their care. As a queer black woman, my focus is working with low-income, black and brown and/or LGBTQ individuals to increase their access to birth services. Asa Labor & Delivery nurse, I see many parents who are overwhelmed and taken advantage of by a system that often does not see pregnant people as whole beings - and I hope to give families the tool to combat that. 

I offer sliding scale classes so that courses can be accessible to families and I also offer a class specifically for Queer families so that there can be a safe space to discuss issues affecting the queer experience. Feel free to reach out and I look forward to learning with you!
