My name is Kaleigh and I am a birth and postpartum doula in Brooklyn, NY. I love birth work and I believe it is one of the most important paths to take. Birth is a wild journey and can be beautiful, but the right birthing team and support is so important/necessary. 
I believe every momma has the right to a journey that leaves her feeling whole rather than wishing things had gone differently. I have 3 children of my own who were all born at home. My first son started off as a beautiful journey, I had found a rhythm breathing through my contractions and finding positions to help relieve some pressure and pain. I rested between contractions and saved all my energy for pushing.
My only problem was my midwife didn't believe I was in active labor because I was a first time mom so she didn't come, even with my doula telling her I was 100% in active labor. Waiting for her to show up, set up and check my baby was so stressful I got less relaxed and when I heard my son's heartbeat slow all the way down I panicked internally. 
I got out of the pool and laid on my side on the couch to give birth, I ended up tearing and needing to be stitched 2 different times! I was traumatized, dealing with being a new mom & healing, I slipped into postpartum depression. 
I knew after that experience that I wanted to be a part of the birth world. I needed to be the support for other women that my amazing doula was for me. I needed women to be informed so they could make the proper decisions about their bodies and babies. 
Birth does not have to be full of trauma, it is beautiful and amazing. I want to help mommas have beautiful and amazing birth journeys so they can think back when looking at their babies and SMILE.
