I am honored to offer my skills and experience as an elder with The Bridge community. My business is Back to the Root: Services for Birthing Families. I have been a birth worker since the late 1970s. I have served as a lay midwife, birth doula, childbirth educator, full-spectrum doula/birth attendant, lactation counselor, infant massage instructor, dancing thru pregnancy instructor, and DONA-approved birth doula trainer.

I have attended births in a variety of settings, including homes, hospitals and birthing centers. I teach a weekly childbirth class for Healthy Start Brooklyn, and I am a doula with the By My Side Birth Support Program. I have trained doulas for community-based doula programs, including Healthy Women, Healthy Futures in New York City and Earth’s Natural Touch in Bridgeport, Connecticut. I have done birth work in Ghana, West Africa and Tanzania, East Africa. I served, for the last four years, on the New York City Maternal Mortality and Morbidity Review Committee. I was a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor with the WIC program for nine years. I am committed to helping improve maternal, infant and child health in New York City and elsewhere. We must do everything that we can to support our birthing families in having optimal outcomes.

I believe that we were all Divinely created. I’d like to support the members of The Bridge community as we each learn to recognize our unique magnificence. Let us move, collectively, from a consciousness of just surviving — to one of thriving! We can do so much more when we are connected. An important part of the word community is UNITY!
